Harry Nelson Atwood

Harry Nelson Atwood (1884–1967) was a pioneer aviator. He became a pilot and within three months of his first lesson. In 1911 he made a record-breaking 576 mile flight from Boston to Washington, DC, and on July 14 landed on the White House lawn. [1] Between August 14, 1911 and August 25, 1911 he made a 1,256-mile flight from St. Louis to New York, making 11 stops. [2] He died in 1967.
